We are activists in saving trees as a matter of Pagan spirituality and climate-change urgency, because both magic and science tell us that the key to surviving and reversing the disastrous effects of burning ancient trees in the form of fossil fuels is to protect existing trees and plant new ones wherever possible. It's unpaid, mostly unsung work — but by putting into practice the Witchy principles we write about in our books, we together with our fellow hometown activists have made exponential progress since the day a decade ago when Lady Passion sat down under a historic pair of magnolia trees in front of Asheville's City Hall and refused to budge till they were saved (see "Magnolia-Tree Chronicle", http://www.oldenwilde.org/oldenwilde/activism/magnolia_intro.html).
On Sunday 12/1/19 we were featured in the Asheville Citizen-Times newspaper, and pictured in front of those trees. The three-page spread detailed our and others' efforts to save Ashevile's tree canopy (6.5% lost in the past decade). See at: https://www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2019/12/02/asheville-lost-891-acres-trees-canopy-study-may-restrict-cutting/4168058002/.
On Thursday 12/5/19 PFunk interviewed us on "The Mothership Slight Return" at AshevilleFM103.3 about our tree-canopy preservation and restoration work. Hear at: http://www.oldenwilde.org/index.html#tree-canopy-interview.
If you're a local (or want to get inspired in your own locale), check out the drop-down list of info and activist resources at that link, such as an interactive map NASA developed for us that shows the heat-vulnerability risk for any location in Asheville. (It's a glaring illustration of environmental injustice, because it confirms that the poorest neighborhoods are consistently the hottest and most tree-deprived.)
Google discontinued the map system we'd been using for years. We transferred the data to a new, better map showing where all we're enabling inmates to sue for religious rights. See at: oldenwilde.org/prisons.
